Tribute Lamp

How to create a timeless and portable lamp that uses modern technology and which is atmospheric, functional and energy-efficient? As always, the creative process begins with form. In this case, an initial sketch on the drawing pad resulted in an expression inspired by the beautiful, classic shape of a musician’s tuning fork. A seafaring nation, Denmark has a long history with lanterns and kerosene lamps, and this tradition guided the process of transforming the tuning-fork shape into a portable lamp. The arched section of the fork forms the functional core that lets the user pick up the lamp and carry it by a finger. I love it when design elements fuse together into a single form, and here, I aimed to create a soft transition from the two-pronged shape to the base that holds the battery.

Tribute is rechargeable and uses low-energy LEDs. To provide optimal lighting, the lamp has two LED elements. One emits light downwards, while the other illuminates the base of the lamp and flows into the space around it.

With this lamp I pay tribute to the Danish design tradition, which combines form and function in simple, timeless expressions. With this portable lamp, you can bring friends and family together wherever you like. The light and minimalist expression makes it a versatile companion that is equally at home in a penthouse flat or an allotment garden. A democratic lamp.
