Hwam 5530

For 20 years, Henrik Sørig Thomsen and I have designed wood-burning stoves for Hwam – an ambitious manufacturer with a keen awareness of sustainable combustion and the role of a fireplace in a home. Sitting by an open fire or a wood-burning stove always puts me into a special frame of mind. My thoughts are allowed to wander, and I might read a book or do a jigsaw puzzle with my children. Quite different from when I sit in front of a TV. People who buy an old house often unconsciously hang the flat screen TV where the fireplace used to be, because the house was designed with this heat source as its natural architectural focus. With our new stove, the 5530, we hope to reclaim the story of the burning hearth as the heart of the home. The 5530 strikes a clear graphic figure in the room, a clear monolithic cube, creating a space that invites mindful contemplation and new ideas.

Hwam has received the Confederation of Danish Industry’s award for their Intelligent Heat System (IHS) SmartControl™, which is at the core of sustainable wood-burning stoves with outstanding combustion.
