About Tobias Jacobsen
The Danish designer Tobias Jacobsen was born in 1965. He is a trained goldsmith, attended the School of Design in Pforzheim, Germany, and graduated as a furniture and industrial designer from The Danish Design School (now the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design) He designs products, furniture and architecture for a wide range of clients and manufacturers in Denmark and abroad.
Tobias Jacobsen’s design process in his own words:
‘My approach to design is deeply personal and springs from a fascination with art, crafts and beautiful shapes. I love it when everyday objects are functional and sculptural and offer good user experiences, a sense of creativity and a quality feel.’
As the grandson of the internationally acclaimed architect and designer Arne Jacobsen, Tobias Jacobsen grew up surrounded by his grandfather’s design and architecture. From a young age he developed a keen sense of space, form and function, and today, in addition to his own design practice, Tobias Jacobsen is actively engaged in preserving the originality of Arne Jacobsen’s legacy in collaboration with Arne Jacobsen Design I/S. Tobias Jacobsen has extensive experience as a speaker and host of workshops on topics related to design, creative processes and his grandfather Arne Jacobsen.
With the opening of House of Tobias Jacobsen in Osaka in 2016, Tobias Jacobsen launched a meeting place for Japanese and Danish design that serves as a venue for workshops, presentations and events.
Tobias Jacobsen has his studio in Copenhagen, Denmark, and is engaged in collaborative projects throughout Europe and Asia.
